Peruvian Old Lady Cactus (Espostoa melanostele) is a striking columnar cactus covered in long, silky white hairs that protect it from harsh sun while giving it a soft, woolly appearance. Easy to grow in full sun with well-drained soil, it requires only occasional watering once the soil has dried out and is highly drought tolerant. Growing slowly it can reach approximately 2–3 m tall and 30–50 cm wide in the ground (remaining smaller in pots), this architectural cactus is an outstanding feature for arid gardens and collectors.
