Medlar 'Dutch'

The Medlar Dutch (Mespilus germanica 'Dutch') is a hardy, deciduous fruit tree known for its compact size and attractive, gnarled branches. It produces small, brown fruit that ripens in late autumn, traditionally eaten after being ""bletted"" (softened by frost), when its sweet, spiced flavour develops fully. This Dutch variety is favoured for its ornamental appeal, with lovely white spring blossoms and for its unique fruit, which is ideal for jellies, preserves, and fresh eating.
