Heaven Lotus (Gustavia superba)
Gustavia superba, also known as Membrillo or Heaven Lotus, is a striking tropical tree traditionally from Panama, Colombia and north-west Ecuador. It is grown for its spectacular flowers and unusual edible fruit, with orange pulp around the seeds that is very high in vitamins, traditionally cooked before eating, often boiled or roasted, developing a rich, savoury flavour sometimes compared to meat. Typically grows 5 to 8 meters in a backyard setting.
